BULGARIA, 2018

PREPARATIONS

How do we typically travel? We dive in head first. We pack our bags, buy one-way ticket and off we go. This time, however, it’s different. This time the pre-departure preparations are extensive (at least by our standards). In our eyes Bulgaria is a…

DAY 0 – SOFIA

Sofia was surprising…right from the start. From the airport we head right into a modern underground. I almost expected horse carriages to be going around here and so I’m slightly shocked. Centrum brings about the second shock of the day…

DAY 1 – UNEXPECTED ENCOUNTER

We finished off yesterday with a substantial dinner at a very non-touristic place (Mister Uli), which was also recommended to us by our host. In short, the evening went like this: searching for the place, getting lost, finding the place, entering, strong feeling of…

DAY 2 – WILD IVAN VAZOV

Sharing the campsite with the White Brotherhood was a surprisingly pleasant experience. Everyone was quiet and considerate of the others. Therefore we decided to spend another night at the Old Hut. Afterall, it’s so beautiful in here….

DAY 3 – ANNOYING CAULIFLOWER

It’s time to say good bye to the Old Hut and to the Sedemte Ezera Hut. Next stop – Maljovica Hut. Before we reach it, we will have to descend and ascend back up to 2,050 m.a.s.l. DAY 5 – LAKE DAY

You know those moments when something annoying happens but after a while it turns out that it was actually for good? Like when you are awaken in the middle of the night by your uncompromising…

DAY 6 – KOBILINO BRANISHTE

What a romantic experience sleeping near the lake, right?. There’s only one problem with it – during the night, it’s usually damn cold near water. We could tell…In addition to being woken up by the cold multiple times during the night, I was also awakened by strange noises…

DAY 7 – STINKY LAKE & KILLER PEAK

Seventh day was supposed to be a rest day….Well, that didn’t exactly work out. „Let’s just quickly climb to one of the surrounding peaks and spend the rest of the day relaxing“, we thought. For that purpose we chose Rilets peak (2,713 m.a.s.l.) which quickly earned a nickname „Killer mountain“. It could have occurred to me that…
